for flute, violin, viola, and violoncello, edited by Claire Genewein and Martina Hochreiter. This contemporary arrangement of the complete opera by Franz Heinrich Ehrenfried (1747-1828) is masterful. For flute quartet (first edition published by Schott), this version found widespread dissemination during the nineteenth century. With the original libretto, one can stage the opera employing a chamber music formation or perform parts of it in concert. Very effective is also a performance with narrator: on the CD recording by L'Arcadia for the ORF Vienna, the arias are impressively spoken by actor Daniel Fueter.
