Anton Kraft was Haydn's solo cellist in Eisenstadt, later in Vienna, and premièred Beethoven's Triple Concerto. For the first time, a new critical edition is available that does justice to the significance of this virtuoso masterpiece, which was published by Breitkopf & Härtel in 1804 but has long been out of print. The spirit of Beethoven can be felt everywhere in the tonal language. Overall, Anton Kraft displays an individual and creative style full of esprit, so that Haydn's praise of him for his care and progress in composition almost twenty years earlier proves to be absolutely understandable. Anner Bylsma recorded the concerto some 20 years ago, followed by two further recordings by other soloists. The most recent recording is by Jean-Guihen Queyras (Harmonia Mundi, no. 15159443) and was presented at the Kronsberg Academy in September 2024. Urtext edition, series Il Violoncello concertato.
