product description
Hamburg 1735, edited as new edition and facsimile by Thomas Fritzsch and Günter von Zadow. For a long time, the Twelve Fantasias for Viola da gamba solo by Georg Philipp Telemann were thought to have been lost. However, earlier this year, viola da gambist Thomas Fritzsch – following up on a tip by a French colleague – discovered a copy of the original 1735 print with the title Fantaisies pour la Basse de Viole. Fritzsch will give the first performances of these Fantasias in modern times, and simultaneously present a recording, on 19 and 20 March 2016 under the auspices of the 23rd Magdeburg Telemann Festival. Long missed by experts, these unique works, in which Telemann masterfully exploits the playing possibilities of the viola da gamba, belong in the essential repertoire of every viola da gambist.
