The version for solo cello (G402) is intended for players who wish to “grasp” this work in all its length and beauty. It predominantly reproduces the melodic course. In the version for two cellos, on the other hand, melody and harmony are united, but many details are still technically easier to execute than in Schubert’s original. The version for three players follows the original more strictly, the ambitus is larger and the arrangement follows the original score very closely in dynamics and performance designations.
