Study for Selected Editions Founded in 1974 by Paola Barocchi in collaboration with her family, S.P.E.S. pursued a programme that Giorgio Zampa - in an article in ‘Il Giornale’ in 1976 - described as ‘daring and generous, intelligent and extremely useful’. Refined facsimile editions of rare or unpublished works and important historical and artistic texts were offered at relatively affordable prices with a strategy that combined a dimension of the highest craftsmanship with scientific rigour and precise, never banal cultural orientations. These choices were not the result of an idle dwelling on aesthetic considerations, the quality of the figurative testimonies or the refinement of the specimens, but were underpinned by a critical need that aimed to contextualise the sources and increase their cultural value.
